It is nice to see Joe Pesci starring in a movie again. This movie is not what I was expecting, it is mainly about a love triangle. Helen Mirren gives an excellent performance in this film. I disagree with a lot of the bad reviews this film has received. Overall you should definitely give this one a chance.

It seems a subject made to order for the screen, though you couldn't prove it by the humdrum outcome. There's no problem with the desolate locale and tacky trappings (all the way up to the plush carpet atop Pesci's head) other than that they remain an unexplored background.

Tries to be an academy award type movie, but it fails. Unfortunately when a movie like this is just okay, it becomes largely forgettable. Mirren was pretty good and Bai Ling, who has made a habit of "public exposure" shows nothing. Pesci plays Pesci. This is an okay version of what is actually a true story.

I was severely disappointed with this film. If you're interested in seeing a story set in the prostitution industry, I'd recommend Satisfaction (The British TV series), not for being more "real". I'd say these both ranked about equally in "reality", but Satisfaction was so much deeper and more enjoyable (which I didn't mean as a pun.)

Love Ranch ("inspired by a true story") should have been satirical. Instead, it's just accidentally hilarious.
