Summary: Giles De'Ath is a widower who doesn't like anything modern. He goes to movies and falls in love with film star, Ronnie Bostock. He then investigates everything about the movie and Ronnie. After that he travels to Long Island city where Ronnie lives and meets him, pretending that Ronnie is a great actor and that's why Giles admires him. (imdb)

John Hurt is great in this, and Jason Priestley takes the piss out of himself nicely. You could do worse than rent the DVD

Wonderful character study alternating between hilarity and touching drama; Hurt gives arguably the performance of his career, and provides a character whose motives are impossible to guess -- and are all the more intriguing because of it. Priestley's performance is also a revelation, bringing many shades of light and dark to his portrayal of the teen hearthrob. Reliable character actors Chaykin and Hancock in support are also terrific. Criminally underrated; deserves to be better known.

Pretty good little character study. Hurt is great and it's probably Priestley's best role.
