Summary: A beautifully shot classic love story set in Tokyo. A successful businessman finds out his daughter has committed suicide after having her heart broken by an older Spanish man and hires a contracted killer to execute him. Problems arise when the killer starts to develop feelings for her target while tricking him into trusting her before she makes her move.

An artful but slightly frustrating film, which in certain scenes displays a fascinating level of precision and detail in its image composition and sound design, but at other times loses its way. From a technical and artistic perspective there are moments of real beauty, but Coixet is inconsistent with these. Narratively, the framing device just about saves the story from being too facile. However, the film's shortcomings in the non-mopey characters department are what make it a chore to watch.
While the story and characters where rather cliché the overall directing was superb. The cinematography and sound was so stunning and perfected I didn't even care about the concept being unoriginal (I usually get annoyed about these this). Also the fact that the film is classy in a noir style makes it easier to buy the cool and sexy stereotypes. If you love to sink into epic lovestorys with a romantic setting or just want to be smothered nonstop by beautiful visuals this is the perfect movie.
