"The bloat and heft of the doc's narrative scope leaves the viewer awash in a sea of historical "facts" with very little sense of the human experience behind the curtain of celebrity." - Glenn Heath Jr.

Very good and worthwhile piece of filmmaking. Wasn't expecting much as it seems all has been said about the great man before, but the emphasis on music as part of his religion gave a real sense of the man's energy.

MacDonald does well to tell such a compelling and insightful story when there must have been so many interested parties trying to rewrite this history. The interview subjects are great - eccentric and wry - and the period footage is wonderful, but in the end the man himself remains a bit of a mystery.

With some heavy editing this could be interesting

Solid documentary that underscores the most positive aspects of Marley's short life. The film walks a fine line between honest depiction and hagiography, crossing over into the latter on occasion. That said, there is some fantastic performance footage here, as well as interviews with the key figures in Bob's life. While the film may not get too far into the darker side of Bob, it clearly portrays his hope and work for a better world, a place where everything's gonna be all right.

The long running time, sluggish pacing and irrelevant interviews result in a film that doesn't quite do justice to the man.

The thoughtful and leisurely paced Marley is an exemplary music documentary in almost every way - but the area in which it falls short is an important one. Like a surprisingly large number of films about musicians (whether biopic or documentary), this one is curiously resistant to letting the audience hear its subject's songs in their entirety.

One of those bio-docs that's basically just a bunch of people who were close to Bob telling their version of the story. Sorta long, but full of information. I figure it hard to make a documentary about a person without it being sort of praising and legendary, but if anyone fits that description it was Bob. The man was a symbol for a lot of things.

Don't know if it quite lived up to the hype, not much I haven't heard before...but still dope...

I've never gotten into Bob Marley in a big way, so most of the information in this documentary was new to me. It's fairly long, but it felt appropriate when covering such a prolific man's life. Lots of interviews with people who knew him well. A lot of great concert footage too, showing how passionate and entertaining the guy was. The music featured in the film was great, of course. I'd definitely recommend this to any Marley fan, or any music fan, really.
