Garner's not bad, but he's not Bogart(-level), either. A bit dated yet reasonably enjoyable.

Pretty standard, well made 60s detective noir. Garner is charismatic in the lead.

Uncomfortable hybrid of 40s noir sensibilities and 60s gloss -- far too much of the drama occurs in the daylight! Garner is fine but ultimately miscast as Marlowe; the film seems to be positioning itself as a pilot for a TV series, and is far too laid back for its own good. Scene with Bruce Lee a definite highlight, and film remains eminently watchable, but pales in comparison to the classic Bogie films.

Bruce Lee kicks out an overhead light (then jumps off a building). Unfortunately he's only around for about 5 minutes in this one. Garner's approach is kopacetic for Marlowe, but basically the whole thing comes across as one long (and complex) TV episode--except for the inclusion of Rita Moreno's buns.
