I couldn't finish it - looking at the kid is too tramautic. I know that's the point, but I couldnt' do it.

It's a manipulative tear jerker that somehow manages to work on some level. Amazingly Cher can actually act and Eric Stoltz does a pretty good job.

Manipulative and formulaic drivel, sure, but a movie I find compelling despite myself. Give Cher some credit: she's pretty amazing in this.

Sympathetic portrayal of not only a handicap, but many of the other emotions that teenagers grapple with. Excellent acting by all the leads.

Poignant drama beautifully crafted by Bogdanovich - the unsentimental view of rural life calls back to his own PICTURE SHOW. Impeccable performances all round, headlined by Stoltz's understated affability, and stolen by Cher's dramatic powerhouse as a drug addled, loving, sensitive and tough-as-nails mother. Intelligent screenplay avoids all the pitfalls these stories fall into - there's no bully to overcome and hostile attitudes are subtly woven in to make perceptive social observations.

Weepy drama about a guy with a freakish head. It's not bad, but it's no Elephant Man.

Amazing for the fact that Cher and Stoltz both turn in good performances.

It's heart-warming, but it's got an edge on it too. Not bad.

Cher was the best thing about this. Poignant, but a little dull in places.

Weepy TV movie plot but: a real dramatic and memorable film. Cher was the standout in a good bunch.

A difficult watch but worth staying with it for some moving and touching acting from Cher, Eric Stoltz and Estelle Getty. Ahead of its time in questioning our fixation with beauty and physical appearance. Really under rated.

Probably the last good film you'll ever get from Peter Bogdanovich.

Pretty solid drama. And yeah, Stoltz is better than Cher, and Sam Elliott is better than both through sheer awesomeness.

rvw. still one of my favs. i love the biker, mom and gar stuff. but it gets way better once it's him and his gf. and then that fades and has a slightly eye roll ending. and theres a lot before his gf thats more meh or kinda rushed, like i bet the book would be way better...ew there isnt one. and the ending will always make me cry

Passable inspirational drama, good performances from Stoltz and Cher. Occasionally undermined by an excess of Springsteen. Reading up on the real-life Rocky reveals disappointing inaccuracies in the film, in particular its insistence on his deformity's superficiality.

I think this movie is very important to watch. Very heartbreaking and sad. Really good acting from everyone involved - I also love this found family dynamic.
