Summary: Based on author Patrick O'Brian's series of Aubrey/Maturin novels, the film is set during the Napoleonic Wars. Crowe is Captain "Lucky" Jack Aubrey, renowned as a fighting captain in the British Navy, and Bettany is ship's doctor Stephen Maturin. Their ship, the H.M.S. Surprise, is suddenly attacked by a superior enemy. (20th Century Fox)

A solid all-rounder, that does nothing exceptional. Quite a lot of people seem to rate this fairly highly, but I'm not sure why? Personally I found it quite a bland film.

One of the best and, by far, most intelligent and thoughtful, action/adventure films of the decade. The script is witty and authentic. The cinematography is incredibly thorough. And the sound design is absolutely breathtaking. Required viewing with at least a 5.1 system.
