Potent, vigorous directing by the ever overlooked master Peter Weir; a detailed account of the daily routine of a British ship's crew, powered by ecstastic battle scenes and brilliantly acting by Paul Bettany and Russel Crowe - in this order.

Loved the convincing depiction of the sea warfare of the time. Very appealing cinematography, too. And although it's over 2h long, and the basic storyline is pretty simple, it never got boring. Oh, and it has a great score, too.

Terrific, smart adventure movie. This is what CG animation should be used for -- to back up a story like this. Huge chunks of this movie were digitally created, but it's so well done, you don't notice, you just believe it. I greatly admire the performances, which are truly heroic and stirring, and the scientific, informative bent of the storyline. Just really well done.

One of the best and, by far, most intelligent and thoughtful, action/adventure films of the decade. The script is witty and authentic. The cinematography is incredibly thorough. And the sound design is absolutely breathtaking. Required viewing with at least a 5.1 system.

This movie is a promising idea, but even Paul Bettany could not save this movie from collapsing. If I heard one more Brit-wannabe stand up and shout with the crew at the end of the movie, I probably would have gone nuts.
