Summary: A policeman takes his twin brother's place and inherits his problems and a beautiful girlfriend. He is forced to kickbox his way from France to the U.S. and back while playing footsie with the FBI and Russian mafia. Not just muscles with a badge, the policeman must find the answers to some tough questions, none harder than what the heck is an accordian player doing in a sauna. (imdb)

Lazy, mailed-in slop. I don't mind that they phoned in the non-existent plot, which is a weird mishmash of previous JCVD vehicles like "Double Impact" and "Lionheart". However, the action scenes absolutely SUCK here, and for that, both Van Damme and especially Ringo Lam ought to be fucking ashamed. There's just no originality, excitement, or care put into the fights or shooting at all. Also, I could have done without Natasha Henstridge's lousy attempts at "acting". This movie is awful garbage.

Maximum Risk plays well to Van Damme's strengths by mixing his martial arts with some exciting action set pieces and chases. The plot mostly wreaks and doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but the action is fun.
