The concept is undeniably cool, and it wouldn't have taken much effort to elevate this from a stupid movie to a stupid and entertaining one, but whoever are behind this don't seem that interested in trying. Despite having afforded fairly convincing special effects (this being 2009), they don't care to make scenes of a mega-shark and a giant octopus smashing shit and fighting each other even slightly memorable. The plot is predictably crappy and the wall-bangers are too many to count.

The Asylum can't make bad films or, I can't dislike Asylum films. Full of plot holes, characters doing inexplicable things because the script hasn't been proof read properly. Delightful. And a giant fucking shark and octopus with fairly low quality CGI.

Even a bad movie aficionado will struggle to find anything to cheer about in this meaningless mess of stilted acting, appalling editing and dodgy visual effects. If this film were a dog I would have it put down. Without anaesthetic. I would drive up onto the pavement just to have a chance of hitting it. Straight-to-VHS, please, in an age monopolised by DVD and Blu-Ray.

even though it pains me to say this, the best thing about this movie is Lorenzo Lamas. we also have Debbie Gibson 20 years too late, horrible CGI + the hilarious but also epic scene with the shark jumping 10.000 feet to catch a plane in mid-flight. truly atrocious pos.

like with most trash movies, its weird to rate a movie badly if it is INTENDED to be crappy. so basically it fulfills everything it promises, and therefore must be deemed GOOD at least, right? i'm so confused now...hey look! the shark just grabbed an airplane in flight! holy shit!

Plethora of continuity errors. Sunset. Interracial love interest that is as unexpected as it is pointless. Sunset. A sequel was created despite the heavily implied death of Megashark. Sunset. Massive contempt for the fundamentals of science. Sunset. Sunset. Sunset. Sunset.

Now, see, here's the difference between utter shit like Great White or Shark Attack 3 and Mega Shark: this one actually tries to be cheesy, the others just ARE. This one is constantly winking at the audience to remind them of that... and the problem is that it's not funny. It depends entirely on CGI, but it cannot afford CGI and most of it just ends up incomprehensible. The others try to be outrageous; this one knows it's not, but asks us to pretend that it is. But no.

This trailer for this was hilarious!! I decided to watch the film with the mindset that it would be so bad its funny. It wasn't. It was just bad.

The only reason it evokes an occasional laugh is from the sheer embarrassment the viewer is going through from watching this. It's bad. Really, really bad. But still pretty damn entertaining.

I was expecting something more in the 'so bad it's good' category. I mean, there are some good laughs in it (especially the plane scene and the science montages) but I found myself getting quite irritable at points, the lighting and editing both did my head in, and if it wasn't for all the mocking going on from those I was watching this with I have little doubt that I would have been quite bored long before the end.

This film is just not worth your time. Even for fans of B-movies, it will fail to entertain. There is actually only a few minutes focusing on the shark and octopus mentioned in the title; the rest if spent on humans that you won't care about whatsoever. The battle that does take place is too short and boring to save the film, the CGI is incredibly poor and the acting is laughable. The writing and dialogue comes through terribly, while the editing makes what little action there is hard to follow.

Overall Enjoyment: 15/40, Plot/Themes: 5/20, Cinematography/Direction: 0/20, Acting/Writing: 5/20 Hilariously bad. Worth it for the dialogue and acting alone.

Just Youtube that scene of the shark eating a plane and the Golden Gate Bridge and you've seen the only part of this movie that will entertain you.

You know whats going to happen as soon as it starts. Good for a laugh but so hard to watch. Besides the fact it can be laughed at, this movie is awful in pretty much every way a movie can be.

It is legitimately trying to be awful, so I guess it should get points for achieving that..........

80's pop tart Debbie Gibson plays a genius marine biologist who somehow revives a megalodon and a giant octopus who had been frozen in ice in mid-combat for thousands of years....OK, then. The dialog is terrible (and big chunks of it cribbed straight from wikipedia), the acting is wooden, the CGI is incredibly lame and the same shots get recycled over and over. Plus the climactic battle is a huge wet fart of a letdown. Fun to watch with buddies so you can laugh at how awful it is.

Watchable

Come on, you know exactly what you're in for with this movie from the title alone. This is a bad movie that delivers on all cylinders. It's an absolute laugh-riot that's a perfect "beer and buddies" flick. You can't take it remotely seriously for a second and really, that's the point. With all that praise out of the way, this movie has terrible sets, acting, and plot. Some of the dialog is humourous, like only knowingly bad movies can be, but for the most part it's equally horrible.

Fun to mock with a group of friends, but even that gets tiring halfway through.

An epic vision... a masterful tale...

Horrid acting, re-used shots, recycled sets, clumsy directing, ugly cgi and a bad screenplay. Somewhat enjoyable in all it's badness.

Absolutely pitiful. It looks incredibly ugly, and the lame attempts at flashy editing render it a messy pile of crap.

The biggest flaw here is the acting. The actors can't sell the somewhat shoddy story, instead magnifying the problem. Also, the female lead looks like a man in a bad wig. Still semi-enjoyable, when the actors aren't sabotaging the weak plot and if you fail to notice recycles sets and shots. Best if viewed with friends or alcohol... or both.

Fails on nearly every level. Aside from the CGI scenes, nearly the entire film is a just the main characters trying to look concerned about impending shark/octopus attacks.

Couldn't stand watching the whole thing. The CGI scenes are the only ones worth watching, but they last just a couple of seconds.

It saddens me that they didn't make this sillier. It's tongue-in-cheek and all, but seeing as how it isn't scary, visually appealing, well-written/acted, or even exciting, the film being deliberately Not Good doesn't exactly work in its favor. Even though you'd expect them to embrace the camp a bit more, it IS still pretty dumb and ridiculous; I'm glad I watched it!

It gets 4 points for the entire plane scene alone which was hilarious to me. The acting is so atrocious, I don't think I've seen worse. It can't even fit into the so bad it's good category because you just get sick of it after about 40 minutes. I would love to see a Rifftrax of this, but that would be the only way I would ever even consider watching this movie again.

This is a great movie to see with others, intent to make fun of it while it happens. It's another Asylum release, so you know it's only "so terrible it's fun" territory. Debbie "Deborah" Gibson plays the poor man's Kaitlin Olson while Lorenzo Lamas drunkenly stumbles his way through his lines. The effects are laughably awful and it recycles shots so much you can't help but laugh. I'm eagerly awaiting the sequel, "Immense Cod vs. Massive Haddock."

Hahahaha. A shark fighting an octopus. And they're mega, even gigantic. Whoever thought of this? You can't make this stuff up. You just can't.

Needed more goofy shark or octopus action. Just plain boring.

I was highly amused. Don't hate.

Quite possibly the best bad movie of the year!
