Summary: When a cunning supervillain (voiced by Will Ferrell) accidently kills his crime-fighting nemesis, the rogue suddenly finds life boring and uninspired. So, he creates a new enemy (Jonah Hill) who seeks to destroy the world, forcing Megamind to play the hero role for once in his life.
This is first Shrek level of quality from Dreamworks; the kind of humor and slick, wacky animation that I haven't seen them produce in years, and what's nice is it strays just beyond the line of mind-numbing cliche and contrivance. I mean, that might be a criticism for some, especially in comparison to Pixar who rarely even see the line they're so far beyond it, but it's not. The humor isn't revolutionary for an animated feature, but it's fresh enough to make the film great fun for all ages.
Good performance from Will Farrell and Tina Fey. Funny and entertaining enough for a watch. No where near as close to the gold standard that is Pixar though
Entertaining enough, and the 3D cinematography is as good as it gets, but can't we have one Dreamworks movie that doesn't end in the characters dancing to a played-out pop song? Please?
It's a fun movie -- on its own merits, and without qualification -- not least because of Ferrell's extremely likeable lead. Cross, Fey and Pitt work well in support, and the plot ticks along nicely. If films like this keep being made, eventually lacklustre animation may end up being the exception rather than the rule (which is definitely no bad thing).
Much, much better than I thought it would be... I had just seen the truly bad Despicable Me. This one had clever jokes and a great premise. Really fun, from beginning to end.
Manages to be somehow formulaic, despite such an intriguing and original premise. Still, the animation and dialogue are both pretty impressive, and the jokes are funny more often than they aren't.
DreamWorks general trend of improvement continues. While not containing any moments to rival Pixar at their best, "Megamind" none the less proves an entertaining and rarely irritating ride. It is all pretty predictable, but is also well presented and voiced to a good standard. Not bad at all.
Decent, unsurprising, with few really new elements to the genre of animated superhero movies. I enjoyed the romance in the film though, it adds to the superhero thing.
Something about this movie fell flat. Maybe it was the unlovable stock characters, meandering plot, or pop culture references (for the parents). Kids movies don't have to suck. This one does.
