Terribly generic cop thriller. It's almost like they found exactly what made Beverly Hills cop entertaining, removed it, then made this film.

This movie = my childhood. Features possibly the most boring movie title ever.

nothing special, but not that bad considering. Music's awful and I'm not sure why they even bothered putting Michael Rapaport's character in, but Michael Wincott was born to be a movie villian. Even with the dorky haircut he has in this movie he's a natural.

One of the better Eddie Murphy movies of the 90s. Hence the high score.

Better than most of this kind of action movies, but sure not good either. The plot is good at times, ridiculous at other, some characters are well worked out, other not, ... And Eddy murphie.. keep playing in comedies, it feels like these action movies just don't work if you're in it. It's like leslie nielsen playing in the silence of the lambs, it just doesn't work.

Would have been so much better if Eddie Murphey hadn't stared it.

Murphy has realised that perhaps he is not so funny anymore, so he tries to be a real action hero, unfortunately he fails in this also. Michael Rapaport is the only good thing about this movie and that isn't saying much.

Roper (Murphy) is a hostage negotiator with Police Department Roper has his own way of doing things which doesn't always mean following department procedure, but he's good at his job. Roper has been given a new partner, McCall, a former SWAT team member whom Roper is training in the fine art of handing dangerous criminals with words as well as weapons. However, Roper has his hands full when Michael Korda (Michael Wincott), a psychotic criminal, claims some hostages in the midst of a jewel heist.

Generic, but competently made, action comedy suffers from Murphy's refusal to be funny at this point of his career outside of family fare. On the plus side, it's more convincing than Beverly Hills Cop 3 (i.e. the action hits harder) and Murphy is quite good in a more serious role. It's just unfortunate that the script betrays him at every turn, but that is his fault: Metro was arguably the beginning of his slot filling period. The worst was undoubtedly yet to come.

An Eddie Murphy crime-comedy that's neither funny nor suspenseful. Just painfully bland.
