A delightful predecessor to Baumbach and Anderson with a dash of Fitzgerald for good measure.

Precisely the film someone named "Whit Stillman" would make.

I'm sure the script for this was a great read. It loses something in practice (the acting's no great shakes - you can see why these unknowns stayed that way), but its wit still shines through.

Another one of those films with college students sitting around and talking. Only problem was they couldn't figure out what they should be talking about.

I'm a sucker for these movies.

The dialogue is quite witty in places, unfortunately the acting doesn't hold it up well... although no one is outright horrible, there's not one good performance in the bunch. Trying to peg down exactly how Stillman feels about these characters makes it a more interesting film.

Excellent dialogue--with very good execution from Chris Eigeman and Taylor Nichols--in a WASP version of Woody Allen, plus a likable and winning female character out of a Jane Austen novel. Low-budget, but very effective.

I still chuckle to myself occasionally when I think of the character who never read any fiction, only literature criticism.

This is a kind of self-awareness done right, and to great effect. There's no insulting juxtaposition; the culture simply bares itself as the same.

It starts off nice and Bunuely, but it soon disintegrates and isn't sure how to deal with the directions that it wants to go in. It's neither Bunuel nor is it Fitzgerald. I like how none of the characters are sympathetic, but not overdone.
