Middle Men is an underrated drama that contains plenty of drama and some genuinely funny moments. The cast is an odd mix of characters but they are very good. The story is a nice cautionary tale about being careful who you choose do business with and how you live your life.

It was alright. The Social Network (2010) illustrates how this type of story (entrepreneurs starting a business etc.) can be told elegantly and with realism. This film lacked this, and that’s where it lost me. Also, I wish another actor had been cast in the lead role. I don’t dislike Luke Wilson exactly, but I don’t think he has the presence to truly carry a film. It’s an entertaining enough watch.

This movie was advertised more as a comedy it seemed, but really it turns out to be one of those more left-of-center young male dramas with that dash of cynicism. The auto-pilot allusions to porn industry archetypes (e.g. Audrey Dawns' ill-will toward any and all things family) is cleaned up a little bit by Wilson's Jack Harris who really does have a moral or two after all. James Caan plays a good sleazbag.

I'm not much for true stories, but this ones great! It's kind of like: *Catch Me If You Can* with some *American Gangster* and *Blow* all with porn! How can you go wrong?

The film was great! And even though it was a true story it had a great plot. The nudity in the film was done well, and the ending was even better than the beginning. And just think, all online sales businesses were based on a porn industry's credit-card program...Amazing.

This type of movie often turns out to be a case of style over substance. Middle Men has plenty of style, but ultimately suffers from having too much content crammed into it, rather than too little. The initial concept of two losers inventing internet porn was a strong one, but after the writers shoehorned every crime, mafia, deception and family drama theme into the screenplay, the essence was lost. Good entertainment value but no standout elements in this mish-mash of ideas. Needed more laughs.

It is more proof that the influence of TV-style superficiality -- undramatic pacing, routine imagery -- has ruined the imagination of both filmgoers and filmmakers.

Just okay. Or maybe that should be: actually okay. You've seen most of it before but there are some decent plot turns and it's moderately entertaining throughout.

God I cannot handle Luke Wilson. He just comes off so fake to me. And I don't think the dude can act. His inner narratives were his highlight, and they were only on the high side of passable. Giovanni Ribisi plays an extremely convincing coke-head, and his performance was probably the chaotic highlight of the movie. It's a semi-fun crime-dramedy with a couple of memorable scenes that just doesn't quite make it over the top for me. It was just average. "High-end average" would be a stretch.

There are a lot of films out there about a normal guy getting in over his head with some questionable people and schemes, and most of them are boring. This film is different. Really excellent story telling, and what a story indeed. I can't believe it's based on true events. Plot, acting, cinematography, and characters are all highly engaging and memorable.
