Hits a few high notes near the beginning and end, but the middle 30 minutes after the reveal are just brutal. They blatantly repeat scenes, and sluggish, boring ones at that. There are some shaky plot holes, (especially with regards to the professor) the "science" is laughable, and it devolves into a generic Hollywood ending at its conclusion. However, the first 45 minutes were mysterious and fascinating, and when the film succeeds, it's damn exciting to watch.

vastly overlooked, and under rated for those of us who've seen it. so what is the bottom line? a movie with misunderstandings for logical paradoxes, but also a fine story and well done at that.

John Varley's short story "Air Raid" is better, but this is actually a serviceable piece of science fiction

What ultimately comes out of all this is some deft handling of the paradoxes of time travel: paradoxes not dodged but bravely faced up to in the form of beam-rattling "time-quakes." Varley is an accredited s-f and fantasy man, and this adaptation of his own short story, "Air Raid," is a genuine piece of science fiction; furthermore, a genuine piece of just plain fiction: well-constructed, clever, as coherent as it need be.
