The creator's ideas are interesting but the heavy handed way it's told through three mouthpieces is awkward.

interesting subjects are brought up in this very thought provoking film. i believe this is best appreciated if you're willing to just give up on the visuals and take a ride on the ideas. this is basically a movie that seems much more like a book.

Liv Ullmann, Sam Waterston, and John Heard play a physicist, Presidential candidate, and a poet respectively. They wander around a beautiful island discussing life, systems theory in particular. While the people are obviously straw men, that does not detract from the incredibly fascinating aspects of the film. A delightfully deliberate ramble.

That bit that Ullmann says about how women would keep the world safer as world leaders is a laugh and a half to anyone who remembers Margaret Thatcher and Indira Gandhi. (It was the only part of the movie at which the audience applauded, too.) Otherwise, this is a pretty neat movie -- one long conversation between three people, and it's never dull
