A comedy about counterfeiting ought to be more fun than this. Not at all memorable.

Never quite a bore, Goulding's film wants for deepened interest in its thoroughly unexceptional combination of drama and comedy. We come, we see and we gain nothing from Mister 880 besides a deepened appreciation for Miracle on 34th Street - in which Edmund Gwenn also starred. That film was humanist and fulfilling in a minor, cute way, but Goulding's inferior diversion may only claim aspirations to such.

Twinkly-eyed Edmund Gwenn is a counterfeiter. Nice screenplay and effective direction in this small comedy.
