I really like Chaplin's work. Definately a classic and amazing if you know when he maded it. Great humor that still is funny now. And , what we are used of Chaplin , critiscm. Chaplin definately was way ahead of his time and this results in the best movie of his time.

It is a very funny, sweet, charming film with a lot of good slapstick and a quite lovely relationship between The Tramp and the urchin. My only complaint with the film is the brief moments of sound - the speaking feels completely out of place (though I did get the significance of all the speaking coming from machines showing how industrialised the world had become), the gurgling noises when The Tramp and that old lady are drinking sounds disgusting and the song at the end was quite annoying.

It's entertaining for a little while, yes, but it's too easy to forget that it has a plot, as it often feels like a series of sketches tied together. As such, the slapstick starts to grate before too long and, while the scenes with Chaplin and Goddard are excellent, the scenes with either of them alone seem hokey and overdone.

Both as a political satire and as a lovely romance, Modern Times stands out as one of the most charming films in the history of cinema. It is such a popular feature that it seems like I've been watching fragments of it my entire life.

At times very funny and moving classic. LIKED: Charlie Chaplin's acting, subtle modern society criticism. DISLIKED: straightforward storyline.

a lot of fun. Used to think Chaplin films were deeply unfunny as a child when my grandad showed them to me. Now I see what the old codger was on about! One more thing,Paulette Goddard was a hottie!
