Strange and thought provoking. Clever editing prevents this lapsing into cliches despite having a fairly simple, if not straightforward plot.

Two reasons the film didn't work for me: 1) Blanc's character/performance didn't win enough of my sympathy; 2) I anticipated some key plot developments. However, there are some good ideas and good moments in the film.

Much like A Short Film About Love, this movie explores issues of obsession, isolation, and voyeurism. With the assistance of Nyman's gorgeous score, it's a moody piece that gets under your skin. But the characterizations are too detached and deliberately constructed. The film has a certain style and to a degree it attains a sort of emotional honesty, but these people don't feel genuine enough for any kind of gut reaction to occur. But it does resonate in some ways, and is quite watchable.

What a strange, entrancing film. But it makes me wonder -- I'd say that in 90% of the films which feature peeping, the peeped-upon end up perversely enjoying it. Does this stat translate into real life? If so, get me some binoculars!

Forget the trailer. This is really a fascinating character study disguised as a thriller

The film's short length means that many things aren't as developed as you wish they were, but what is there is captivating and though provoking both as a nice little mystery, but also as a character study of M. Hire.
