Very good in parts, film suffers from a general uneveness in tone, and a central character (Gyllenhaal) whose motives make very little sense. Almost rescued and redeemed by Hoffman, who is heartbreaking as the grieving father, and Sarandon as his wife, who has her own ways of working through her grief. Moments of uncomfortable humour clang rather badly with the intense drama; I wish the focus of the film had been tilted towards the grieving parents. A misfire, but still interesting.

Talented cast performs but they don't have a lot to work with. Some good moments are offset by some boring gaps.

It's about ten times better than City of Angels, but given what we know about Brad Silberberg, why does this film still seem unpersonal and Hollywoody?

A likeable but unremarkable little film.

Refreshingly honest look at grief, though slightly less than compelling. Doesn't leave much of an impression, but I didn't hate watching it or anything.

A very lovely drama about three lives forever altered by one malicious act.

Contrary to the storyline, the film isn't as sad or depressing as you might expect, so don't shy away from it thinking it's going to be a maudlin tearjerker. This is a film about letting go of people lost, and if you can relate, credit Silberling for making as entertaining a tale of coping as one might reasonably expect.
