Reynolds is pretty amazing in this. Brooks tends to lay it on thick feeling the need to explain every emotion to us, but overall pretty charming and funny.

It's Brooks, so it's smart and funny, even if he is only playing Albert Brooks (again). Debbie Reynolds is perfectly cast. The tacked on ending was pretty weak though.

Not quite up to par with Brooks's best work, but he and Reynolds have dynamite chemistry and there are enough laughs to overcome the almost unbearable schmaltz in the third act.

What a hilarious movie! Albert Brooks and Debbie Reynolds are great together as mother and son. This movie is very realistic and funny writing. There is also a funny cameo by Lisa Kudrow.

It made me laugh honestly a few times.

I liked it. While it doesn't exactly excite on paper, the premise is actually quite daring: a mother and son desperately trying to engage each other as equals and failing. Really, it's a movie about self-sabotage among the suburban middle class. Great stuff.
