Carrey's big screen breakthrough came in 94 with Ace Ventura, 10 years after Eddie Murphy made his mayor breakthrough with Beverly Hills Cop in 84. My thesis is that sometime in the early 90s Carrey decided to emulate his career after Murphy. In 02 Murphy made The Adventures of Pluto Nash, so it's only logically that Carrey makes this movis now. What I am trying to say is this: in 2007 Murphy made the horror that was Norbit! Carrey has far from hit rock bottom. Brace yourself for the year 2017!

one of the most ridiculous premises I've ever seen, I wonder if the people involved in the production of this film actually thought it was a good idea

Jim Carrey continues to fade into comedy history. His foray with CGI penguins isn't doing him any good. He completely phones it in with this kiddie-fluff that fails to function as casual family entertainment. The whole exercise is a complete bust. The penguins aren't cute. Carrey bores. The plot makes no sense whatsoever. And the acting across the board rarely rises above terrible. A joke of a premise like this needs to allow Carrey to cut loose, and he absolutely snoozes here. So do we.

Besides none of it making any sense at all it's not that bad. Jim doesn't gett to Carrey out as much as I would have liked, but it's still entertaining enough. Frankly, I have trouble hating any film that reminds me this much of 90s comedy films, like any Carrey film does.

Jim Carrey is like an ex-girlfriend! I used to love him very much and when I didn't love him anymore I still wanted the best for him. Now, as time has passed, I just don't give a shit, but is still reminded of how great it once was, when I once in a while stumble upon the old pictures...

Well, let's just check something: a family comedy about a very rich man that finds love and all the lovely things about life when six penguins come into his life. Ok, it's got Jim Carrey and all -- Carla Gugino, is there, too --, but there is no way this could be good. No way: it's an Eddie Murphy movie, not Carrey's.

This is not an outstanding comedy, but it does not try to be. Meets well the mission of just being a family comedy, it's fun enough for that.

Jim Carrey runs on old fumes. It still works once in a while, but he hasn't really evolved with time. I didn't hate this one. It has its moments, even though there is no depth at all and very few laughs. Carrey does work better with animals than human, probably because they have similar maturity.

Great family movie with a lovely feelgood moment at the end! I was very surprised to see Dominic Chianese play in this movie. Most of it was pretty random, but in the end it was worth the watch just because it put a smile on my face :).

"In spite of his adorable CG fish-eating accessories, Popper is just another lazy, family-friendly stock patriarch in a long line of clueless but basically well-meaning fathers that Carrey has played over the years." - Simon Abrams
