over rated with a slow beginning. none of the players are particularly good, and that snobbish lady beldon is unbearable. this movie is only worth watching if your out to see anything that's won more than one oscar--even if it doesn't deserve it.

Begins sweet, ends sad. I've seen better weepies, though. Still, quite interesting to see a film about WW2 made while it was going on.

I just wish that that pesky Walter Pidgeon would go away and leave me and Greer alone together. *sigh*

For me this amounted to little more then propoganda. I'm sure that in the day it was very uplifting and sold a lot of war bonds but it doesn't stand up as a great movie.

Mrs. Miniver is a good look at a family going through life in war-torn England after the outbreak of WWII, but some of it is as mundane as probably much of life was during that time. Besides sitting and waiting to see what happens next, I don't imagine there was a whole lot going on. There is a particularly good scene where the family is holed up in some type of shack, attempting to do normal, casual activities and keep up appearances while bombs drop all around them.

The face of Greer Garson is a wondrous thing and all anyone should need - this is how you make propaganda work.

This Best Picture winner is very much of its time, but its portrait of a British family during the early days of WW2 remains warmly evocative, and there are lovely moments of character and mood; the scene of the Minivers in their air-raid shelter is a subtle little gem. To be sure, there are dry spots, and some of the more interesting characters get too little screentime, but the solid performances (Richard Ney's dodgy accent notwithstanding) and William Wyler's direction carry one through.

A brilliant piece of wartime propaganda and a wonderful film.

Occasional bits of forgivable propaganda aside, this is a wonderful home front for the war effort film. Great performances, the requisite class commentary on British society, and some genuine tension that mostly avoids falling into predictable traps.

Stiff-upper-lip wartime film about Britain looks very dated today. Greer Garson is luminous, but her Mrs. Mininver's nobility--entirely the fault of the script--becomes cloying.

Humbling and emotive without being maudlin, Mrs. Miniver is one of those rare films that completely delivers the genre combination. I feel honored to have watched it.

An odd war film that follows a materialistic middle class family in small town England. It's extremely well made and has a great cast (Teresa Wright is stunning as always), but the story is very slight and melodramatic. Wyler did far superior work four years later with The Best Years of Our Lives.

One of the best war dramas ever made. Greer Garson is outstanding.
