Summary: Francois is a middled-aged antique dealer. He has a stylish apartment and fabulous life, but at a dinner with a group he considers his dearest acquaintances, he is blindsided by the revelation that none of them actually likes him. He's arrogant, self-centered and harsh, and they don't believe he knows the meaning of friendship. His business partner Catherine makes him a bet: if he can produce his best friend, she will let hims keep the massive Greek vase he acquired that afternoon on the company tab. If not, it's hers. There's always an element of humane piquancy -- sort of like a twist of lemon in a soft drink or espresso -- that makes you feel you aren't simply watching product.

It's tolerable, but really nothing special; the Millionaire gimmick feels oddly cheap, the characters (with the exception of Dany Boon) are hard to like, and the plot feels stagnant and not particularly well thought through. The result is watchable, certainly, but far from being particularly entertaining.

Predictable morality tale which doesn't have much going for it. Leconte and Auteuil go through the motions while Dany Boon brings a bit of charisma. All the supporting characters might as well not exist. The only highlight is the 10-minute sequence lifted, complete with built-in excitement, from "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire". Watchable but a poor effort by Leconte's standards.

The whole premise of the film rests on the fact that Auteuil's character is perceived to be cold, selfish and friendless - but we are never shown why he is seen that way, and it's actually the other characters in the film who come across as harsh and cruel. I felt sorry for Auteuil, particularly during the dinner party in the beginning (when the bet is made) - what horrible colleagues! It's quite heartwarming in places, especially when Boon is on screen, but the plot just feels under-developed.

Patrice Leconte does Preston Sturges material. Weird. Funny and knowing, but then throws all credibility to the winds
