Summary: A shy boy is unable to make friends in Yazoo City, Mississippi in 1942, until his parents give him a terrier puppy for his ninth birthday. The dog, which he names Skip, becomes well known and loved throughout the community and enriches the life of the boy, Willie, as he grows into manhood. This is ostensibly for children but it also seems hellbent on being a "worthy", touching drama. For that, the script is much too neatly calculated. The acting is just fine from everybody... including the dog.

I've seen movies about boys that have strong relationships with their dogs. This didn't really do anything for me because of that, but it was a solid film just the same, just really lame ass subject matter.
