A highly underrated charming little film with lots of heart and humor. The message it tries to convey may have been told a thousand times before and I didn't particularly like the ending but there's just something so endearing about this movie thanks in part to Zellweger's great performance. A commendable effort from Loncraine.

A movie in which Zellweger is only mildly annoying deserves some praise. But not that much.

The coming-of-age of George Hamilton (the septuagenarian executive co-producer), in the guise of dark-haired but short-nosed Lerman. False, lifeless resuscitation of the period, so dully lit and colored as to make you pine for Fifties Technicolor. To project The Big Heat at a drive-in in Cinemascope(!) may not be a big thing, but it%u2019s an indication.
