Summary: A young woman (Kara Hui) marries a dying senior member of a martial arts family in order to keep the inheritance from falling into the wicked hands of Third Uncle (Lung Wei Wang). Memorably unusual, this is as concerned w/ socio-political subtext as it is w/ kicks 2 the face. Toying w/ social mores 4 goofy comic effect, it touches on both Chinese Westernization & the generation gap. All of these issues r wrapped into the proto-feminist young "auntie" of the title who, along w/ every other upturned convention, skirts awkwardly close 2 broaching what surely must've been a societal taboo w/ a "nephew" so unflappably upbeat he makes Burt Ward's Robin look like Morrissey.

Kara Hui is beatuiful and deadly, and Gordon Liu wears a big floppy white wig. The scenes with Hui trying to fight in heels and a dress are hilarious.

Wow! Why didn't I see this sooner? There is some incredible kung fu on display here and the last half hour or so is simply jaw-dropping. This was definitely a major influence on Stephen Chow's films.
