Exactly the kinda movie you'd expect from Jarmusch.

Witty and cool - exactly what to expect from Jim Jarmusch. Jim's first color film and everything looks really nice and surreal - I can't believe he films on Earth, if you know what I mean. Also, Tarantino should've thanked Jarmusch in the credits of Pulp Fiction.

Mystery Train's three loosely coupled segments piqued my interest, especially the first, which is enlivened by its unusual perspective, wonderful leads, and a rich depiction of Memphis. Jarmusch's steady camera and long takes are also able to find a surprising amount of character in his stark sets. Unfortunately the last two segment's narratives are more conventional, with disappointingly hollow characters, and the film frustratingly alludes to a lot of themes without adequately exploring them.

A relaxed, hilarious and occasionally touching journey through a dry, surreal night in Memphis. The performances, the soundtrack and the atmosphere created are really fantastic, set a really dark tone overall. The Japanese couple have the best dialogue and Joe Strummer's story was the best overall and the Italian tourist was the funniest. A near perfect film.

I got a kick out of watching the couple wander around Memphis (with suitcase in hand) in Far From Yokohama-- past the Arcade Restaurant, Staxx, Sun Studios, and the Elvis statue. Mitsuko's Elvis scrapbook was fantastic/hilarious. Loved the hotel desk duo Screamin' Jay Hawkins and Cinqué Lee. And of course Steve Buscemi in the Lost in Space segment-- The never really knows what is going on, but always gets the worst end of it guy.

Two first segments are great, the third one was a bit too on the nose and broad, but overall a wonderful experience.

This is a crazy slow movie that was worth the time. This is a movie that I got lucky enough to finish. I was very bored and it was recommended by the best movie finding/reviewer I have had the pleasure of knowing, Adam, who found great obscure movies. He suggested this and I was bored and home alone so I rented this and I came close to getting off the couch and turning it off. Fortunately I didn't and the way the ending binds the story together is great

I'm not all that crazy about Jarmusch, but this one has great characterization (which is usually what is lacking) along with his trademark atmosphere.

The first two thirds of the film are very strong, but it sort of fizzes out in the middle of the Strummer/Buscemi segment.
