Summary: As rumors reach them that the Allied armies are advancing on their concentration camp at Buchenwald, Polish prosoners renew their feeble hope for survival and freedom. When a group of prisoners is transferred from Auschwitz, a four-year-old child is smuggled into the camp in a valise. Threats and torture by SS men fail to turn up the boy who becomes a symbol of the struggle between captives and captors. (imdb)

Allegedly the first German film set in a concentration camp. I've developed a belief that no Holocaust movie should end on a note of hope, and this film breaks that rule. Furthermore, it really doesn't convey the brutality strongly enough (although it does attempt to). Other than that, I have no particular complaints... it's a tense story with some good characterizations and stark photography.
