Good-looking clunker as Bigelow brings the visuals& atmosphere (aided by a great, if sometimes intrusive, score), but the script is lazily half-baked w/ multiple "Huh?" moments splattered throughout. Examples: Y is Mae so into Caleb, who presents himself as a generically horny guy? Y does the young vamp risk so much4 Caleb's sis? Y the hell does Caleb assume the vamps r going 2 leave him alone? Y does the sun come up w/out warning? And most importantly, y does every vamp become batshit suicidal?

There's too many directors in this world who think that slow pace automatically makes their films any good. It doesn't work this way and you can clearly see it here. It's totally forgetable vampire romance with uninteresting plot and characters.

Solid film making used to tell an interesting story, with acting that ranges from pretty good to deplorable. The premise of the film is a lot more interesting than its execution, and the resolution feels a little too light given the way the rest of the story was handled. The soundtrack is also a grating synthesized mess, which significantly detracts from a number of scenes. That the film is so watchable despite these myriad issues is a testament to the power of its underlying theme.

Misfires towards the end (sometimes literally), but is otherwise a great watch that is equal parts interesting and cool. Tangerine Dream's soundtrack really puts it over the edge for me.

A western-tinged vampire movie? Yes please. One of the most well made horror flicks I've seen in quite some time (sad that I have to go back to 1987 to find one), that although it doesn't really generate any scares, it delivers tension-filled scenes in spades. The "will he or won't he" scene with Mae, Jesse and the big rig driver--especially--had me bolted upright with queasy anticipation. Can't leave out Paxton's performance as the shades and spurs wearing psychopath. A true horror original.

This could have been a great movie--a vampire homage to Bonnie and Clyde. The idea was brilliant: a vampire western. Yet it was all ruined by an ending you could literally predict scene by scene, and the worst offender of all, Adrian Pasadar. You would have a great bit of poignant dialog by Henrikson only to have the camera pan to the half-retarded mewling of Pasdar, a jock who's acting was as out of place in this movie as a steaming pile of shit at a dinner party.

Watching this now is refreshing after the super serious romanticized vampire flick onslaught of the past 15 years or so. Some of the dialogue is awkward in spots, and Jenny Wright is painful to watch. Henriksen rules (as usual) though, making up for it. The effects at the end are damned horrible. I know it was the 80's, but come on, it had to look like shit then too. Flawed but fun.

A vampire movie that's similar to Lost Boys, but is superior in every way, and was also made first. Bill Paxton's performance is over-the-top, and you will love every second of it! All the characters are great, and the whole film is very dark and very hip. One of the best vampire movies out there!

Interesting vampire film with a good part of the cast from Aliens (Vasquez and Bishop as bloodthirsty nightwalkers, hell yeah). It has some inventive scenes that are obvious influences on Cameron and Rodriguez and although the plot seems to take some quantum leaps here and there and character development at points moves faster than the wings of my pet hummingbird, this is a really neat 80s vampire flick

A few things about it put me off; most notably the ending. But it's still a nice addition to the vampire lore, and 22 years on it holds up a lot better than Lost Boys. Plus, Henriksen and Paxton make a great team.

Bigelow takes a silly subject (vampires) and attempts to make it serious. I guess she succeeded in that regard but it's still about vampires and thus is going to be silly. The ending is god awful and cliched and you really hope it doesn't end up there but sadly it does. None of the characters are very likable either, especially the lead who gives one of the most wooden performances I've ever seen. Has some cool scenes, like the scene in the bar, but it drags at times and gets old pretty fast.

it's got a couple good spots, but the uneven pacing, lack of eventfulness, and a plethora of unlikable characters bog it down. the idea is fine, but if it could have brought up the scary a few pegs and pasted in some more violence we would have gotten a keeper.

The cheese is fun for the first two acts, but once the vampires become the actual villains that the white-bread hero has to defeat, it loses a lot of its edge. Too many clichés played as though they're necessary and an unwillingness to have the protagonist do anything even mildly bad (he seriously doesn't kill a single person while he's a vampire? What?) had me rolling my eyes by the end. Bigelow has a nice touch from a directing standpoint, too bad about the writing.
