Summary: High school student Nick O'Leary, bassist of the queercore band The Jerk Offs, meets college-bound Norah Silverberg after a show. She asks him to fake being her boyfriend for five minutes to avoid being alone in front of a girl from school, but complications arise when the girl is Nick's ex, Tris, who's left him heartbroken.
"What this movie does so well is capture not only the incidental qualities of the [hipster] subculture, it seems to peg the sexual mores as well." - Micah Towery
A classic "Cera" youth movie with a beautiful symbiotic performance by Michael Cera, Kat Dennings and (of course) The Yugo. I must admit, I have fallen in love...
Blah! The story line was very weak. There was a good soundtrack which was redeemed the movie slightly but otherwise, the actors were just reading their lines. I always seem to expect more from Micheal Cera and hope he shows emotion but maybe that is his style that he wants to keep forever in every movie he is in!!!
stellar all around, it's the ultimate feel good movie that makes you want to be eighteen again. cera is at his niche as always, and he and dennings have some real chemistry. the script flows and uses nyc superbly, while all these "special moments" add up to the feeling of the whole ride. "what are the benefits?" is the funniest line i've heard in a long while.
Not EXACTLY like the book, personally I found the book a lot better, but as far as those wannabe-indie-but-actually-are-mainstream movies go, it was very good.
Oh Michael Cera, I wish I could deny your quirky, witty, awkward charm. But I cannot, so you cause me to watch dull movies just so I can smile and laugh at how adorable you are at being uncomfortable in every scene you're in.
