Summary: Tommy is a career criminal, released from prison after a seven year stretch, to be reunited with his old heist buddy, Mick. Mick takes Tommy to his room in the crumbling splendour of the Golden Eagle hotel in a downbeat area of Los Angeles. The hotel's inhabitants are a bizarre mixture of elderly bums, prostitutes and pimps. Mick, however, has a plan for him and his pal to escape this mess, go straight and make a new life working in Las Vegas.

I actually enjoyed this film. It's a little ponderous and possibly a bit formulaic and cliche in some of the ways it portrayed the squalidness of a crumby downtown existence. I imagine the ending is what primarily turned off most viewers. Any time the protagonist is righteous yet punished, without the escape of a comic relief, audiences seem to immediately condemn the film. This is nihilism in it's darkest form. Although I do not share the same outlook on life, I understand it's relevance.
