Of course

The movie is blanketed with a sense of unoriginality that prevents it from standing out. Every element is lifted from other movies (which is entirely deliberate, but nonetheless uninteresting) and the consequence is a movie that has no defining style of its own. The 80s cheese is too cringe-inducingly bad and too pervasive for my liking. The catch phrases were so corny and the "jokes" so unfunny that I felt bad for the actors saying them. There's a reason this movie has been forgotten about.

for being essentially a wish-fulfillment drive-in movie, it's got some serious atmosphere, and the climax is very fun. it takes a long time to get there though, and the characters are your standard college movie cutouts, there's no attempt at depth.

Another classic from my youth, this one is an amalgamation of many horror stories/cliches....but it works as a whole

"THRILL ME"

Not to be confused with the usual crappy college/frat movie - this is clever, self-aware and has enough gore to do the premise justice. Above all else though this is damn fun and allowed for a brief moratorium on my disdain for everything 80's.

Amusing horror comedy that doesn't take itself too seriously. Funny one liners are scattered throughout. Basically, the movie is a mixture of jump scares and silliness with very little plot. The practical F/X are pretty good as well.

One of the characters in the movie asks "What is this? A homicide, or a bad B-movie?". The answer would be that this is good B-movie. Humorous, entertaining and filled with references to the classic films. Very 80's in a charming way.

It's not a bad movie at all, but I feel as if I should have liked it more than I did. Some characters- Jason Lively's especially- just don't work, though I'm uncertain as to whether that's the fault of the actors or the writing. Still, the movie is saved by a strong final block and an amazing turn by Tom Atkins.

Fred Dekker would have done some memorable stuff if he was born 10 years earlier. He "gifted" us with a few dated cheesy films like this that people saw endless times as kids on weekend afternoon tv. This combines horror, gore, and comedy well but the acting is sub-par and the effects are at student film level goofy..especially the infant aliens in the beginning and stop motion/clay leeches. Overall this isn't good but it is inspired trash that shows a love of film and horror schlock.

a blast to watch

Awesome movie! I wish I'd discovered this as a kid. It's typical 80s teen comedy fare combined with genre bonuses such as aliens, zombies, flamethrowing and somewhat gory kills. Dekker skillfully handles balancing the tonal shifts and, a B film no doubt, this succeeds on every possible level you could expect of the material. The following year Dekker would go on to direct one of my childhood favorites, 'The Monster Squad', which holds up very well today, too. Both should prove very rewatchable.

Takes a while to get going but oh my god the last third is AWESOME! Funny and cheesy quotes and the zombies + aliens design is pretty sweet

90% insufferable teenage romantic comedy; 10% bad leech-fighting action.

I'd say give it a go to anyone who thinks it sounds fun, but I was disappointed.

Great horror-comedy has it all: axe-murderers, zombies, space alien slugs, frat boys, nerds, and Tom Atkins. Further, it's directed by one of nicest men in the biz, Fred Dekker. God, how I love this movie. Recommended double feature with Return of the Living Dead or Re-Animator.

Underneath the patina of humor and 80s-movie cliches, this is one of the darkest, most depressing depictions of American life ever committed to film. Women only want you based on your future income, a "university" which seems to be only a larger high school and no one attends classes, all life is utterly vacuous, the heroes all want to kill themselves, and the "victory" is inconclusive at best. What does it matter if alien lifeforms destroy mankind in *this* world?

Ah, the 80's and its seemingly endless supply of cult classic horror films. If you liked Slither, I'd give this one a go and see that a lot of the concepts were...(surprise)...borrowed.

I'm sorry Robocop 3 fans, but this is Fred Dekker's masterpeice. A b-movie that spawned from b-movies and spawned more b-movies, its simply gold. Very good combination of comedy and horror, which I love. The only reason I doesn't receive a higher score is because it falls into some of the cliches of the older b-movies, but oh well, great fun. The alternate ending is better than the original one, though.

Though this comedy horror is much better at the latter, major points for Tom Atkins and the Bradster.

Holy cow, Batman! What the hell did I just witness? None of it made any sense... Now, I know this isn't supposed to be taken seriously but good God, so many questions unanswered. All in all, too boring and dumb to be enjoyable.
