Even as a kid, I thought this was somewhat lacking and mundane.

Patricia Tallman used to be hot as fuck. Liked it as much as the original. In fact for the longest time I just assumed it was the original.

Am I crazy for preferring this over the original? They may have botched the ending, but it's basically the same exact movie with better actors. Patricia Tallman in the hysterical female role turned action badass is unusually believable.

A remake whose faithfulness is just evidence that it is also unnecessary. Imagine a colourised version of the original, but missind some of the more biting social commentary and with acting that draws the palm of your hand towards your face like a tractor beam. It could've been worse, but it shouldn't have been at all.

What's worse than George Romero (who has a lot to answer for, IMO)? Re-making Romero. Don't you people have ANYthing better to do?

One of the greatest twists to change the original, when you think you're just watching a remake.

I was surprised how mild this one turned out - with Tom Savini in the director's seat, I expected a lot more gore and special effects. There were a couple of good make-up jobs in there, but I was underwhelmed by the rest. In the end, it comes off as a blend of the original "Night of the Living Dead" with "The Terminator", which somehow resulted in a movie that could be played on network tv with minimal editing by today's standards.

Rewatch: Liked it even more on another go around! [A good movie that ended up being butchered (lolo) by the MPAA. Almost all of the gore is gone with choppy (lolo) edits, I know there's the less is more thing, but that doesn't apply at all to a zombie film. I WANT TO SEE HEADS BLOWING UP N STUFF.]

The opening is a disaster; speeding things along to the house while not taking care to build the tension. Once in the house it slows to a crawl. Everything is lumped to the ending instead of spreading beats out. It also hangs around for too long in the aftermath. The end fizzles instead of pops. You'd think more budget could get better acting but it went the other way instead. The SFX's are good but weren't that bad in the original so it's really not worth the upgrade.

George finally gets a paycheck for Night of the Living Dead, the zombies mostly look cool, western Pennsylvania is by far the best setting for zombie movies, the Barbara redo completely misinterprets the concept of female empowerment (in a good way), music is shit, acting is 90's cable tv quality, inconsistent special effects. Maybe not as good as the original, but who cares?
