lily tomlin was great, as was dabney coleman. the scene of him in the bondage outfit connected to the garage door opener rigging can still make me laugh.
I was forced into seeing this, i wish i could have been spared. This movie is just fucking shit. Stupid acting, dumb script, and it lacked any sign of cinematic talent by the film makers. Dull and shitty. I wanted to smeer my feces on the television screen.
The problem here is simply that it's not funny. While not a crazy feminist revenge fantasy and in fact very mild, the jokes suck. Dabney Coleman as the evil Mr. Hart is a highlight, but unfortunately, he's written as too much of a cartoonish, over-the-top villain, AND on top of this, the script doesn't allow the audience to laugh at him. It doesn't help matters that Fonda and Parton are both horrible actresses, especially in a comedy. A few amusing bits, but thoroughly mediocre.
Not exactly what I was expecting! No one ever mentioned the weed-induced dream sequences. I like that the film focuses on the women solely as individuals and doesn't spend a whole lot of time exploring their family/spousal situations (I think they had one scene each with the family/spouse). It's a fun little story, and it's certainly distinctive as far as women-driven films go. But it could have been better - especially since it's not very funny.
Yes, because when I think empowerment of women in a patriarchal society trying to make it equal by playing dirty against those who do it to them, I think Dolly Parton.
No this movie doesn't hold up over time, but it help to spread a message about sexual harrasment. Very clever film with a great cast. What Parton, Fonda and Tomlin do to Dabney Coleman is hilarious.
When we got our VCR, this was the first movie we rented. I watched it a million times. The second movie we rented was Airplane, which I watched a BILLION times, and still holds up much, much better than this one.
This film, which finds its roots in the Greek myth of Lysistrata, feels very uninspired and in many ways is an embarassing womans rights protest that goes entirely too far over the top. Sure the message they were trying to deliver is a good one but its attempt to be conveyed fails with flying colors.
One of the great films from my childhood - probably because of the cartoon sequence where Lily Tomlin is about to poison Dabney Coleman. Sad what we remember, huh?
Hilarous! All the actors contribute to a crazy comedy which is based on a real & persistant issue. Even certified MCP's will enjoy the plot and the targets of the humor. Tomlin, Fonda and Parton share the spotlight well. A great popcorn Saturday night rental.
