Captures the mood of Orwell's (spectacularly dark and depressing) book, yet never fully conveys the feeling. The great set designs, muted colors, stark cinematography and strong performances are spot on, but the lingering uncertainty, the deep existential dread that builds up inside the reader during the course of the book never really comes across here. I also suspect that many scenes wouldn't make much sense if you haven't read the book. It's still really good though. Quality is quality.

Predicted the horror that is Nintendo Wii Fit. The Japanese are control peoples and making them exercises!!1! The future is now, err, or it was. The future was is. Also, GIANT BUSH.

A very gritty and dirty kind of dramatic film that has the famous words, "Big Brother is watching". Well acted and worth the watch, it does really crawl along at a snail's pace at times and does get a bit boring.

John Hurt is fantastic in this, but I've always had a problem with Orwell's handling of the characters. The film doesn't quite capture the breakdown at the end of the book, but it makes up for it in atmosphere. Alfonso Cuaron wishes he did this movie.

The only part that works is the torture and brainwash scene. The first is a bore and will probably make no sense to those who haven't read the book.

slightly poor adaptation. the film cannot stand on itself. in order to enjoy the film, you have to read the book first. cannot give the gravity of dystopic Orwealian vision fully. (partly because of its low-budget production I guess). nonetheless, a good try
