Those left in a state of befuddlement by Antichrist will find, with Nocturne, that the Danish filmmaker-cum-provocateur has been observing human oddities with little thematic consequence for all of thirty years now. As with the later debacle, his fitfully gloomy mini looks swell and sounds appropriately ruminative but doesn't cover any bases that weren't already, more vibrantly tended to. Really, this people-as-animals shtick doesn't warrant praise.

Obscure (in more than one sense of the word) student film by Lars von Trier. The meaning eluded this viewer but effort was clearly expended in the construction of the imagery, some of which was very impressive.

See, I like this more than most people here it seems. It creeped me out (regardless of what it is about), and I was a big fan of the beginning and the end. The middle part wasn't anything that fantastic but considering how short the film is, the middle doesn't have enough time to overstay its welcome.

Creepy little film about...nothing.

Spoiler alert: LvT's short is visually outstanding, and with its atmospheric suggestion about birds, one can only deduce that the character is either an owl or some other nocturnal ave.

Looks and sounds nice, though I'm unsure of what it actually was.
