LØL! For some reason this movie can lift my mood efficiently with its fairly simple, linear script and exotic location. The goal is one: a father must find his son. No embellishments, idiotic twists or pretentious depth to it, it just is what it is and serves its purpose: genuine comedy. The ending was most fitting; no sentimental reunions, rather a simple scene in which the man eventually reaches his destination, and from then on all is left to our imagination. Yes, perfect!
Moody, low-key comedy from Norway - first half is quite good, while the second half seems to lose its focus somewhat. Non-Norwegians may enjoy it even more for its exoticism.
The script lacks depth, but the comedy is pure gold and the milieu beautiful. Anders Baasmo Christiansen makes a tremendous performance, but unfortunately the story falls flat towards the end.
It can be slow at times, but then again what do you expect from a movie about a lone man moving slowly through the snow covered North of Norway. The subtle jokes work very well and balance the bleakness of the protagonist's mental state.
Finding a nice balance between the off-beat and the weird, this delightful comedy has performances that are very underplayed. To such an extreme extent, actually, that it in itself somehow becomes a source of humor.
