one of best hitchcock films. it is fun watching cary grant knowing he did not know what happens next while filming.

It's not Hitchcock's best, but it's easily his most likable, and flat out fun film.

Hitchcock at his best IMHO. This movie's fun and enjoyable but not at all thought provoking. More adventure than suspense. Just sit back and try not to think too hard.

Entertainment in its purest form.

I knew I was in love with this film when that one lady says "So horribly sad. How is it I feel like laughing?" Everybody fit perfectly into their roles; Cary Grant is smooth, Eva Marie Saint is seductive, James Mason is stone-cold, and Martin Landau is so fucking creepy. Also, I thought my favorite Bernard Hermann score in Jason and the Argonauts couldn't be topped, but there's certainly a contender in this movie. It's wonderful and majestic from the very start of the credits. So very fun.

A true masterpiece in Hitchcockian suspense and his patented plot twists, almost in the same club with Psycho, Vertigo, Rear Window and Notorious. A curious case of mistaken identity, accused criminal on the flight, a gripping cross country chase, and cliff-hanging escapades, together make North by Northwest an exhilirating watch. P.S. The 'n' number of movies made on the same format, just goes on to show the kind cult impression North by Northwest has on the modern filmmakers.

nossa, esse com certeza é o pior final de filme que desse ano. incrível como eu detestei. achei o cary grant embaraçoso, achei os vilões embaraçosos, porra, achei o hitchcock embaraçoso. obviamente é um filme bem dirigido, e o hitch ainda fala sem palavras, mas achei que todas as opções do filme foram bem pragmaticas, quadradas. john woo teria trabalho melhor esse roteiro, foi mal. funciona como suspense, pq afinal de contas foi conduzido pelo mestre, mas todo o resto é irritante

A thrill ride from start to finish, and I enjoyed every minute of it.

Really enjoyed the first 30 minutes or so. I thought Hitchcock was going for a noir-ish comedy, but then it aims for a serious mystery thriller tone, with big-budget Hollywood action (at least, for 1959) thrown in. My suspension of disbelief meter was broken by that point already and throwing more implausibility into the mix didn't help matters. Great camerawork though - loved the drunk driving scene.

From the very first frame to the last, North by Northwest will completely engross you. It contains all the masterful strokes so common with Hitchcock with a damn immaculate script and score. Cary Grant works wonders here, too. He injects fun into the picture with his light delivery and attitude, but it doesn't defuse the danger he's in.

Mistake - An extra can be seen putting a finger in his ear in the background just before there is a big bang sound.

Master of suspense Hitchcock apparently had lots of fun directing this tongue-in-cheek spy thriller, and you'll have fun watching it. Grant accidentally becomes entangled in one of those typically sinister Hitchcockian plots which never make much sense.

Great movie maybe the best by Hitchcock. Only the ending was too harsh IMO.

Awesome movie. Spectacular acting, great story. Highly recommended.

hitchcock follow's the formula, at least he's good at it

One of Hitchcock's most entertaining movies suffers from some irregularity in its first hour -- I just thought that it hadn't achieved the right mood yet--, but the director knows what he is doing, and then, in the second hour, he shoots those famous and mesmerizing action scenes. The star, however, isn't Hitchcock, but Cary Grant.
