Hitchcock is one of the two or three most accomplished directors of all time. And every bit of his genius is present in Notorious. Ingrid Bergman gives the performance of a lifetime, and that alone is reason enough to watch the movie.

Notorious is definitely one of my favorite films of all time, at least as far as black and white goes. This film is hands down my favorite of Alfred Hitchcock. Even with a film as old as 1946 I still found it quite suspensful, and Notorious had an absolutely fantastic ending that is quite unforgettable. And with brilliant performances on the part of Carey Grant, who became one of my favorite actors after this film, and Ingrid Bergman Notorious is easily in my top 50 films of all time.

I'm not a massive Hitchcock fan and the pacing was pretty slow, but it had some genuinely tense scenes which surprised and impressed me.

The first half feels a little glacial at times and the head-over-heels romance is very forced to start, but from there it develops more naturally, believably (and painfully) over the course of the film. Hitch is masterful with the camera as always and the scenes of tension are as effective as ever. This won't be making its way onto my favourites list, but overall it's a solid entry in the Hitch Canon and one I would be happy to watch again.

An earlier Hitchcock film, this one was reminiscent of his later, more lauded works. I felt like I was watching a genius burgeoning right before my eyes. Fantastic.

My personal favorite Hitchcock film is this fantastic tale of a couple so human they can't help but fall in love and so human they can't help but hurt each other. It's Hitchcock's best use of suspense as he creates tension surrounding the fear of discovery, not the fear of violence.

I find Hitchcock's films tend to build suspense very well and gradually, but then rush the endings. Notorious maintained the tension but felt more satisfying than the other films of his I've seen, or maybe I'm just acquiring a taste for his style of story.

This is one of the finest examples of Hitchcock at his best, but it is the knock out performances by cary grant, and especially Ingrid Bergman. She simply shines here more than perhaps any other performance I've seen of her. the story is simple, but pure, and gives the right setting for the outstanding performances, iluminated by the inherent tensions between the main protagonists and their conflicting roles and emotions. Simply spellbinding.

Alfred HItchcock. Cary Grant. Ingrid Bergman. Claud Rains. If that's not enough to entice you to watch, then the story should, with it's rich mix of passion, lies, and betrayal set against a backdrop of treason, the promise of redemption, and the (ever-popular) Nazi threat.

It wasn't bad, but the dynamic between Grant and Bergman was unbelievably annoying.

Classic noir with Bergman looking beautiful and acting perfectly, Grant at his usual best and insert the always brilliant and under-rated Claude Rains. Top film.
