Summary: Nuit Noire is about night’s enveloping embrace. It honors the sheen on a beetle’s jet black carapace. Set in an alternate reality where the world has been plunged into darkness because of an eternal eclipse—which allows only a fleeting 15 seconds of sunshine in each 24-hour period—Nuit Noire inherits a night logic of surrealistically-interpreted dream images (twinning abounds) and purposely contaminated chronologies (trajectories bifurcate). Unsettling and eerily beautiful work of art, which merges postcolonial anxieties, Freudian psychoanalysis, entomological fascinations and oneiric symbolism. Some direct and indirect references to works of Franz Kafka, David Lynch and Peter Greenaway. Truly a hidden gem. Smolder's shorts are also recommended.

Smolders can´t hide his Idols.And I think he don´t need to. Very much Lynch, sometimes a bit Terry Gilliam. He created a dark and intense Movie. Sometimes, beautiful, sometimes disgusting and uncomfortable.If you like confusing Movies, try Nuit Noir. You won´t be disappointed.
