Summary: A successful professional man with a beautiful wife finds his idyllic life threatened by a temp in his office who reveals herself as a stalker.
Not the best in the genre, but it brought a few new elements to the table that worked. Good performances from Elba & Larter, but Beyonce's falls flat. I was actually liking Obsessed okay until the last half hour, where it hit every cliche in the book in rapid succession, and ended on a hilariously bad fight scene.
"Director Shill doesn't get fancy building tension from his nonsensical male-anxiety mayhem, allowing Knowles's beguiling fierceness and Larter's sexualized cunning to carry much of the prurient load." - Nick Schager
Even as junk, Obsessed isn't kick-ass enough. The wind-up to Sharon's explosion takes too long, and director Steve Shill can't stage a real donnybrook.
This is all stuff that you've seen before (think of Hand that Rocks the Cradle or Fatal Attraction). The problem is that despite being filmed well, the acting from ALL cast members is atrocious. . , the caliber of soap operas. And, as another criticker member has said, the soundtrack is awkward (and horrible). All this being said, it IS watchable and will keep your attention. It's worth the $1 dvd rental from redbox just to see the "catfight".
a quite unoriginal plot and a poorly developed soundtrack makes this movie seem like it belongs on the WE channel. it moves at a sluggish pace, and when events do pick up it can be barable. bottom line is it's a poorly written and produced film, but the actors are acceptable, and beyonce is hot.
I haven't seen Fatal Attraction but I have enough sense to remember that such a film like that is out there. It's depressing when your only redeeming quality is actually just a lonely solo singer named Beyonce.
Terrible terrible movie. The performances from the main cast really weren't that bad. But it was just so hard for me to take everything seriously. The soundtrack was terrible. The Climax was terrible, The cat fight where Ali Larter falls like 30 feet and then just opens her eyes was so funny, I burst into laughter. Terrible.
Strangely, this flick was working for me up until the ending. I thought it was actually smartly executed, if predictable - at times verging on a bad episode of Springer Live - and, I don't care what anyone says, Ali Larter plays "hot-looking-but-crazy bitch" very well. But, the ending totally blew the whole movie to shit. When Ali Larter, in a 6-minute span, goes from normal blonde girl, to Spiderman, to ECW pro wrestler, to dead, that's the point where I wash my hands of it. I want my $10 back.
Beyonce Knowles is not an actress. The trendiness of the theme which is basically the white woman's supposed obsession with the black man was just as sure to get people in the seats as it was destined to be a horrible and ridiculous movie. Enough of this crap already. Moving along.
While Idris Elba takes the lead role in this film the real stars are the ladies with both Beyonce & Ali Larter really shining in their roles as two women, the wife and a fellow employee, fighting for the affection of one man. It's an intense Thriller that really picks up towards the end with one hell of a catfight that is both enjoyable and quite frightening to watch. A solid storyline too that had similarities to the 'Fatal Attraction' type films out there, but certainly stood on it's own.
How did Beyonce find this movie to be something worth attaching herself to? Her character has absolutely nothing to do but remain a second-fiddle cliched stay-at-home mistrusting wife from every other similar garbage movie. "Obsessed" really makes no sense, especially concerning Ali Larter's character. Poor Idris Elba, who really seems to have some star talent, tries to hold his own in this junk, but the flick is terribly written and completely laughable from beginning to end.
