Summary: A Faberge Egg found with a murdered British agent puts Bond on the trail that leads to a plot to kill thousands to weaken NATO defences in Europe. (imdb)
If not the "all time high" the theme song suggests, it is, as the song also says, "a sweet distraction for an hour or two." In fact, it's very nearly Roger Moore's best Bond, a highly satisfying adventure--and a fine ticking-clock thriller. The plot is complex (perhaps too much so), Louis Jourdan is a great suave villain, the Indian locations are lovely, and the action scenes are plentiful and thrilling. Maud Adams is a bit weak in the title role, but Moore is in fine form--even in clown makeup.
a fabulously entertaining bond outing, rather than denying it's unrealistic aspects it embraces them this time around, and everything is better for it. furthermore this is one more reason moore beats connery.
A more traditional Bond film but Moore was now on the decline as Bond, so much so that this coincides with Sean Connery's return to the role in Never say Never again.
An average villain in Kamal and less action packed than usual. Some good locations and Maud Adams returns to Bond for the second time. Again Roger Moore suffers as an ideal bond working with poor material.
I really appreciated what they were trying to do here but once you get into the muddled and confusing plot, the movie starts to lose its sense and just becomes impossible to follow. It was nice to see a Moore-driven Bond film get a bit more down to earth, so to speak, and I really enjoyed the attack on Khan's castle, but it was let-down by the plot, the length and James Bond in a clown costume; did we really need that? Overall there is a feel that Bond films are taking a turn for the worse.
