Noroi is a masterpiece - this is crap. I was entertained by its awful ending though. Also notable is its cameo by Kiyoshi Kurosawa and that they made a film with seemingly no budget at all.

There are times when the film uses its (presumably) low budget effectively by making the supernatural things small and borderline mundane enough that they're maybe unsettling but maybe explainable, avoiding the weakness so many modern horror films have of showing too much. Then towards the end the effects pick up and it gets worse, even while the story is still decent. Then the last minute or so is totally unnecessary and kinda kills the mood, but also the funniest goddamn thing I've ever seen.
