Unfortunately, this well-made film is overwhelmed by racism. Even taking into account the time period, the depictions of Chinese in the United States is taken to a perverse extreme. Warner Oland (of course) and especially Anna May Wong do well with characterizations that do not add to the stereotypical, but the entire foundation of too built upon racist ideas to overcome these portrayals. The earthquake sequences is very over-the-top and entertaining, however. An piece of film history.
