Summary: The story is set in early 1700s. Lafardere is former street urchin who became a best friend of Duke of Nevers. Nevers' heir is his evil cousin Gonzague. Gonzague, seeking wealth, kills Nevers and Nevers in his dying moments asks Lafardere to avenge him, however long that takes.
