This was an excellent display of physical comedy by Chaplin. Here he plays a rich drunk who is struggling to get into his home and up to bed. The early reveal of the dangerous grandfather clock was a great moment of anticipation, as he didn't get to it for some time. But Chaplin's physical control on the stairs, climbing the coat rack, and wrestling down the bed were all most impressive. And of course, who can forget those stuffed animals?

I like Chaplin but this was rather disappointing. It's just him bumbling about pretending to be drunk, not particularly funny or endearing.

Interesting as an auteur's experiment, i.e., Charlie doing his best to be funny all by himself. Just not terribly successful... at least not anymore. Chaplin is so famous that his work has been seen and seen and seen and seen by all us flickheads by now, and imitated to death besides

some very unique and well played out gags, unfortunately most of them go on too long and tend to get overused. the sad thing here is i think chaplin does better when he's the only character in the story, poor edna.

Incredible what Charles Chaplin could do by himself.
