the most underrated film i've seen this is one where id say the story so well writen one of the most romance films that I think got reviews that put a big hurting of the success of the sad but so well done film

The "one day" format, apart from the date transitions that are usually very nicely implemented, is not that special at all (probably it was in the book). Anyway, it's a romantic drama that has ups and downs, it's ok while you watch it but nothing special. Correct.

8.5 + excellent

An atrocious adaptation. The characters are all over the place (terrible casting does not help) and precisely none of the subtlety or emotion of the book is conveyed, which causes some scenes to make no sense at all. Even the fundamental "same-day-each-year" concept which made the book unique is reduced to an insignificant afterthought. I never imagined that anyone could destroy a character-driven story so badly in adapting it for another medium.

WHO. THE FUCK. CARES?

This film was as slow as can be, with no true conviction to be found in its story. I've never read the book, so I can't make the comparison, but this film certainly didn't make a case for checking it out.

Done before, seen before. Great leads elevate this otherwise cliched romance and it's naively predictable ending.

The film is exactly as boring as the summary here on Criticker warns you: "They are sometimes together, sometimes not, on that day". Well, and so what? Scherfig gets the best out of her actors, she really does, and as always there are many small, good laughs. But I'm afraid that's it. I don't particularly like Anne Hathaway (or her breasts, like everyone else), Sturgess has the charm of a dead frog and I only wanted to see the geek boyfriend make his stand-up show. He didn't - I was bored.

Not as much about a relationship as about the frailty of the passage of time; this glimpse-like narrative unfolds upon the audience like fragments of one's own memory. During the final scene I found myself looking back at these faux-memories as if I'd lived it all, and it was wonderful. Packs a surprising punch, and it'll stick with me. I didn't expect to like One Day, not even as I was half through it, but I'll be damned if it hadn't melted my heart by the end. Why don't people like Sturgess?

her accent is hilarious

Decent concept but substanceless execution highlighted by particular weak performances form Sturgess (expected) and Hathaway (surprising).

One Day is neither comedy nor satire; it uses numerous narrative gimmicks to avoid the fact of its humdrum banality.

I thought more was going to be made of the one day per year premise. Turns out it's just a normal day of the year that is barely referenced. The characters don't outwardly acknowledge the day, but rather the audience just happens to only see them on that day each year. It amounted to a flimsy premise, and seemed unnecessary in order to tell the story.

For what initially appears to be your standard rom-com, the leads are fairly unlikeable. Later on, it becomes clear that Nicholls and Scherfig are going for something else (that I won't spoil here) which sort of succeeds. There are problems getting there, though. The film is occationally cringe-worthy and more could have been made of the idea of continually skipping a year ahead in the narrative.

I don't quite know the exact reason, but there's just something not quite right with how the story progress. It lacks the usual tension between the two main character, and everytime when it reaches a boiling-point it fizzles out unsatisfactory (even towards the end when things should be concluded somehow).

The film doesn't flow and the characters arn't explored in enough depth.

I might be totally heartless, but I hated that prick the whole time and felt sorry for the girl. And the story was boring.

Nice idea, but wtfbbq Anne Hathaway!
