Summary: Upon arrival at a mental institution, a brash rebel rallies the patients together to take on the oppressive Nurse Ratched, a woman more a dictator than a nurse. (imdb)
Classic, full of early performances from some very recognisable faces, I'm almost certain that without this movie the career of so many actors wouldn't have been so successful, If you've never seen it then sort your life out and watch it today.
A solid film with an outstanding performance from Mr Nicholson as the small time thief in a mental hospital. Nurse Ratchet is an equally strong character who always reminds me of that teacher that seemed to have it out for you. It's a battle of wills between two great characters with some great writing behind it. The genius of this film really shines when it almost instantaneously flips from comedy to tragedy without missing a beat.
Nicholson-WOW. And about everything else I would like to say one thing - if yoo plan to watch this movie,DO NOT read the book first,it spoils everything.
Like all of Forman's films about brilliant weirdos who just can't fit in (Mozart, Andy Kaufman, Larry Flynt, McMurphy), this is just too ordinary for me. Most of the first half of the movie is, frankly, blah. Jack is just fine and very charismatic, but is this really a great performance? Louise Fletcher and especially Brad Dourif are magnificent, the screenplay is mostly sharp and Forman directs the most intense scenes with energy and ingenuity. But in the end this film doesn't stick to my ribs.
