Summary: Chronicles the motorcycle trip of Ben Tyler as he rides from Toronto to Tofino, British Columbia. Ben stops at landmarks that are both iconic and idiosyncratic on his quest to find meaning in his life. (imdb)
"One Week" scores most of it's points for puffing up my Canadian pride. Recognizable landmarks and corporations make for a warm feeling, even when the main topic is Ben's terminal cancer. The film balances drama and comedy quite evenly. It flashes back and forth without ever losing its footing. Most of the supporting cast is one-dimensional, instead focusing on Ben's quest to find meaning to his life. The downer ending still manages to leave the audience upbeat, proud to be Canadian and alive.
it has a laughably canadian identity, but the story is solid and this is simply a great movie. i set a pretty low bar for jackson because of dawson's creek; so low, in fact, that he'd probably accidentally trip over it not knowing it was there--you know, if the metaphor were real life. what i'm really trying to say is it's a pretty good movie.
