Summary: A happily domesticated grizzly bear named Boog, has his perfect world turned upside down after he meets Elliot, a scrawny, fast-talking one-horned wild mule deer. They both end up stranded together in the woods during hunting season and it's up to the duo to rally all the other forest animals and turn the tables on the hunters. (imdb)

It's a pretty diabolical animated movie that manages to miss out a lot of the charm of so many other animated features. The plot is pretty weak and some of the voice acting is embarrassingly bad (Billy Connolly should set anyone's teeth on edge whenever he's on screen), and while there are still a few laughs here it's really not going to set anyone's world on fire.

Did anyone else just feel that Open Season is blatantly ripping off Shrek? Replace grumpy ogre with grumpy bear and a talkative donkey with an identically characterized deer who wins over the bear and becomes his friend despite initially annoying the hell out of him. It's an OK film other than that feeling you've seen it before in another form!

Harmless enough kiddies' CGI animal adventure that you'll forget almost immediately but is short enough not to irritate. Animation-wise, it's a mixed bag. Some of the effects (water, fire, etc.) and textures are incredibly detailed and quite impressive, but much is fairly basic and even a little 'flat', the mixture of these occasionally giving a noticeably disjointed feel to it all. Better than its sequel, but still nothing to write home about.
